How to Keep Electrical Cords Safe from Pets

Cats generally like electrical cords. They’re incredibly captivated by them particularly if they’re hanging mainly because they believe that they’re toys. The cat’s sharp teeth can very easily destroy them and more importantly, it may kill them. You can find strategies and methods that you can do which will deter your cat from chewing in your electrical cords.

How to pet-proof your electrical cords

a. Tape your electrical cords towards the wall or to the floor so that your cat may have no strategy to bite them.
b. Place sticky tape together with the sticky side up near your energy cords. Cats hate walking on a sticky thing.
c. Position your cords in areas which are out-of-the-way or hidden places that your cat can’t see or cannot access.
d. Do not leave your energy cords hanging. Hanging electrical cords are an invitation for the cats to relax and play with them. In the event you must leave your cords dangling, bunch them in to a huge bundle so that won’t fit inside your cat’s mouth.
e. You can wrap your electrical cords in foil. Cats don’t like them.
f. Coat your power cords with bitter or strange tasting substances like mouthwash, toothpaste or fresh lemon juice. You can also try other substances that the cat is not going to like but won’t harm them. Just experiment and be sure that ants as well as other insects usually are not attracted for the substance that you have utilized.
g. You may attempt using Critter Cord which is a power cord cover with a pet deterrent infused by it. Be sure that you check the label because there might be ingredients in it that is going to be dangerous for your pets.
h. You can try obedience. Each time your cat heads for the electrical cord, just pick them up and place them elsewhere. This approach will surely take time but just wait and see and it will work.
